A 2D explainer, illustrated from scratch

No stock, no template packs. Every asset custom-illustrated, then animated with tight typography and transitions that carry meaning rather than filling time.

2D explainer animation, self-initiated, 2024.

Why custom illustration

The explainer market runs on asset packs, and it shows: a large share of explainer video is visually interchangeable. The characters are the same characters, the icons are the same icons, and the result communicates the message while communicating nothing about the company sending it.

Illustrating from scratch costs more time and is the only part of the process that produces something a competitor cannot buy.

Transitions that carry meaning

The most common failure in explainer animation is transitions used as decoration — a shape wipe because the scene has to change, not because the change means anything. Here the transitions are constructed so one element becomes the next: a form that was a chart folds into the object the chart described.

That is more work per cut and it is the reason the piece holds attention past the first ten seconds. It also means the animation is doing explanatory work rather than sitting on top of a voiceover.

Typography as a design element
