Al-Mashhad Al-Masri — a talk show package

Title and graphics package for the Diaa Rashwan programme, built on a single device: the quotation mark rendered as glass. A visual language sober enough for serious political discussion and flexible enough to run a season.

Al-Mashhad Al-Masri graphics package, Almashhad TV, 2024.

One device, extended

A programme package is not a video, it is a system. The fastest way to make a system cohere is to find one form that can carry the whole thing, and then be disciplined about using it everywhere.

Here that form is the quotation mark, built as glass. It opens the show, it frames the topic cards, it holds the lower thirds and it closes the segment. Because it is one shape, an operator can build a new card at short notice and it will still look like the programme.

Why glass suits political discussion

Glass is transparent, which is the entire editorial position of a discussion show. It also refracts what is behind it, so the device picks up whatever colour the segment is using without needing a recolour. Practically that means one build, many topics.

And it is quiet. A political talk show should not have graphics that argue with the guest.

What the package contains

Built to be extended without me

Type scale, safe areas, colour and timing were documented as rules rather than one-off comps. A package that only works when the original designer builds it is a failed package — the real test is the hundredth episode, not the pitch. More on that in What broadcast teaches you.
